Fake cop facing sexual assault charges

WINNIPEG — A 37-year-old Winnipeg man faces a string of charges after allegedly telling a teenage prostitute that he was a police officer, then assaulting her.

Police say it happened Oct. 4. They say a man picked up a 15-year-old girl who was working as a prostitute near Sutherland and King. After driving to a secluded area the man revealed a set of handcuffs and claimed to be a police officer. That's when the girl says she was sexually assaulted.

Police say their investigation led them to a suspect.

During the arrested at his home, police say the man was found to have a concealed knife attached to one of his legs.

The suspect has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, personating a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon.
